I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with 27 years experience in private practice. While my practice is
generalized, I specialize in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and related learning disabilities;
anxiety disorders (including panic disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder) and depression, for all age groups. I provide
psychological and academic testing to objectively identify the presence of ADHD and/or a learning disability. I also offer
family therapy as I have found, through experience, that family therapy is beneficial for the ADHD individual as well as for
the other members of the family who have been affected. FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS: How do you
work and what is your approach to psychotherapy?
My approach to therapy begins
with an accurate assessment and diagnosis (if applicable). With minors, family involvement is usually required. Following
the assessment, a treatment plan is jointly formulated and agreed upon by the client and myself. I work within a brief therapy
model whenever it is reasonable to do so. My approach ranges with the use of cognitive/behavioral therapy methods, visual
imagery and hypnosis, parenting and educational strategies, family counseling, marital counseling and consultation with physicians,
schools or the courts (if applicable). I am good natured and non-dictatorial in my approach. Therapy is an experience of self-exploration
and I function as a guide in helping those who are motivated to succeed in accomplishing their own personal goals.
What kind of training and experience do you have?
I am a licensed psychologist with 26 years of experience working with a wide range of people, problems,
and solutions. I have owned and operated Intense Outpatient Programs and Partial Hospitalization programs, have worked in
private practice and in private psychiatric hospitals (on two occasions; once as a program director for the adolescent population
and once as the program director on the adult unit for persons suffering from an anxiety disorder). I think that the breadth
of my training and the wide variety of people with whom I have established helping relationships gives me a good basis for
working with most problems.
I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hillsdale
College in Michigan and my Doctorate in clinical psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Wheeling,
Illinois. I have been in private practice in the state of Florida since 1990. If you want other specific details about my
training and work experience, or if you are wondering about anything else that relates to my ability to work with you, please
feel free to contact me by e-mail or telephone. You can also look me up on the National Register for psychologists at www.nationalregister.com.
What kinds of problems and
concerns do you work with?
The problems and concerns that I work with range
from ages 5 to 95. I am especially interested in helping identify and treat individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD) and Learning Disabilities. These conditions affect persons throughout the lifespan and if treated quickly
they can succeed beyond their dreams and their family's expectations. I have seen children go from SLD classes to gifted in
two years. With proper treatment, I have seen children go from SLD classes to gifted in two years. My goal is to achieve an
accurate diagnosis using objective psychological tests. In addition to identifying and treating ADHD and Learning Disabilities,
I work actively with couples and families along with adults, children and adolescents in individual counseling. I help individuals
with mood disorders, relationship issues, trauma reactions and sexual identity concerns.
